About the role

Resides in the U.S. or U.S. territory for three (3) or more continuous years immediately preceding the start of Federal affiliation.

Responsibilities

  • Apply practical knowledge of youth recreational activities and skills in the use of various types of recreation equipment.
  • Instruct children/youth on proper use of variety of equipment.
  • Issues/receives recreational equipment.
  • Identifies age-appropriate equipment for procurement, selects vendor, and purchases gear/equipment as needed.
  • Maintain hand receipts and collects all inventoried items.
  • Inspects supplies and equipment for damage.
  • Ensures sufficient supplies are on hand and equipment in good condition.
  • Affords assistance in setting up sports events and assists in athletic programs as needed.
  • Maintains an effective safety and accident prevention program.
  • Operates various types of equipment for athletic field maintenance (lawn mowers, tractors with attachments, edging and pruning tools, trimmers, rakes, etc.).
  • Applies fertilizer, seed, and herbicides. Collects and empties trash containers.

Requirements

Direct Deposit and Social Security Card is required.

Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.

A one-year probationary period may be required.

Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.

The Crime Control Act must be successfully completed and maintained.

A health assessment is required. Satisfactory performance, successful completion of training requirements and demonstrated on the job competency is required.

Travel to on and off post locations required. Positions that require driving require the incumbent to have a valid driver's license.

A qualified candidate must possess the following:

  • Progressively responsible work experience that provided knowledge of equipment and facility maintenance, inventory, ordering and instructing
  • Use of various recreation equipment
  • Good customer relations skills
  • Must be physically able to walk, bend, stoop, stand on a routine basis
  • Lift supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds

This job does not have an education qualification requirement.

Area of Consideration: This job is open to candidates who live within a 60-mile radius of Fort Jackson, SC. (Military Spouse Preference (MSP) and Involuntarily Separated Military Preference (ISMP) eligible candidates are included in the area of consideration.)
