About the role

Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a Cybersecurity Systems Analyst to support United States Space Force (USSF) Space Systems Command (SSC) and Combat Forces Command (CFC) Defensive Cyber Operations. This role involves continuously assessing, monitoring, and reporting on the operational health, readiness, and effectiveness of Defensive Cyber Operations for Space (DCO-S) capabilities, including both internal (enterprise/home-station) systems and external (field/operational site) deployments.

The Cybersecurity Systems Analyst supports Cyber Purple Team operations by bridging offensive (Red Team) and defensive (Blue Team) activities to evaluate, test, and strengthen the security posture of information systems. Responsibilities include analyzing adversary emulation results, validating defensive controls, identifying gaps, and translating Red Team findings into actionable Blue Team improvements. The role requires an in-depth understanding of cybersecurity policies, procedures, threat tactics, and technical architectures for government-sector information systems, with hands-on knowledge to assess and enhance them from both offensive and defensive perspectives.

This position may require privileged access, and DoD 8570/8140 restrictions will apply.

  • Identify security gaps and translate Red Team findings into actionable Blue Team improvements.
  • Provide technical security analysis and guidance in collaboration with Red Team operators, Blue Team defenders, system owners, ISSOs, and engineers.
  • Support secure system development, cloud environments, and operational needs.
  • Analyze system architectures, identify security gaps, and recommend technical mitigations.
  • Work independently on assigned systems while collaborating effectively in cross-functional teams.

Requirements

  • At least 5+ years of related professional experience.
  • Hands-on experience with network security monitoring and network intrusion detection systems, including Zeek, Suricata, or Snort.
  • Experience using, administering, or configuring SIEM platforms such as Elastic Security or Splunk.
  • Familiarity with automation and configuration-management tools such as Ansible.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python and Bash.
  • Experience conducting threat hunts, security investigations, and incident response.
  • Experience deploying, managing, or troubleshooting Docker containers.
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity frameworks and models, including MITRE ATT&CK and the Cyber Kill Chain.
  • Ability to analyze system architectures, identify security gaps, and recommend technical mitigations.
  • Knowledge of Defense-in-Depth architectures, network security principles, operating system hardening, and cloud security concepts.
  • Prior experience supporting federal, DoD, or intelligence community systems.
  • Top Secret Clearance with SCI eligibility required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Assurance, Information Systems, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years relevant professional experience and a Bachelor’s degree; or Associates degree and 7+ years of experience; or High School Diploma and 15+ years of experience.

Desired Skills

  • Experience supporting DoD cloud environments at Secret, Top Secret, or SAP levels.
  • Experience with GitLab, including source control and CI/CD workflows.
  • Experience applying machine learning to cybersecurity or data-analysis use cases.
  • Experience supporting U.S. Space Force Defensive Cyberspace Operations for Space, or DCO-S, missions.
