Cybersecurity Information Systems Security Engineer, SME
Job Summary
Galapagos Federal Systems, LLC is seeking a Cybersecurity Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE), Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support mission-critical operations within classified DoD environments. In this role, you will provide cybersecurity engineering support for classified networks and systems, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of critical information assets supporting U.S. Space Force missions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert cybersecurity engineering and strategic guidance in support of mission-critical DoD and U.S. Space Force programs
- Lead the research, design, implementation, and assessment of cybersecurity solutions to meet program requirements and security objectives
- Support the integration of security controls and architectures across classified systems and networks
- Ensure compliance with Risk Management Framework (RMF), NIST, DoD, Department of the Air Force (DAF), and Intelligence Community (IC) cybersecurity policies and standards
- Conduct security assessments, program reviews, and risk analyses, providing recommendations to mitigate vulnerabilities and strengthen security posture
- Evaluate technical, schedule, and operational impacts of cybersecurity initiatives and system changes
- Support configuration management processes and assess security implications of proposed modifications to systems and architectures
- Collaborate with government stakeholders, program leadership, engineers, and cross-functional teams to ensure successful execution of cybersecurity objectives
- Track cybersecurity-related action items, compliance activities, and remediation efforts through completion
- Prepare and present technical findings, risk assessments, and recommendations to senior leadership and government customers
Skills And Experience
- Active Top Secret/SCI (TS/SCI) security clearance
- 15+ years of experience supporting cybersecurity, information assurance, or systems security engineering efforts within DoD or Intelligence Community environments
- Extensive experience implementing and managing cybersecurity requirements within the Risk Management Framework (RMF) process
- Strong knowledge of NIST, DoD, Department of the Air Force (DAF), and Intelligence Community (IC) cybersecurity policies, standards, and best practices
- Experience supporting classified networks, systems, and mission environments
- Proven experience identifying, assessing, and mitigating cybersecurity risks while supporting mission and operational objectives
- Experience developing security architectures, implementing security controls, and supporting Authorization to Operate (ATO) activities
- Demonstrated leadership and recognized expertise as a cybersecurity subject matter expert
