CWI Welding Inspector - 1st shift

1st Shift, Full-Time – Monday–Friday, 6:30am–2:30pm

About the role

Under the direction of the CWI supervisor, the Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) carries out tasks as part of the Weld team in support of JARP Operations and JARP Engineering. Frequent and direct interaction with JARP employees, suppliers, and other interested parties is required, along with communication across the business. The CWI supports Operations and Engineering teams by auditing welding standards, procedures, instructions, prints, and equipment; providing monitoring, measurement, and analysis of weld operations and processes; and assisting in driving improvement methodologies related to weld across the business. The role also includes mentoring and training of new employees.

Responsibilities

• Auditing standards, specifications, techniques, processes, procedures, instructions, forms, and other documents related to JARP’s welding processes.
• Supporting Operations in day-to-day verification and visual inspection (VT) of welded products and welding processes to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and industry welding regulations.
• Supporting Engineering in understanding customer requirements related to weld and evaluating complex materials, heating requirements, or other material science aspects affecting product performance.
• Assisting in the creation or preparation of technical reports related to welding as required.
• Providing day-to-day support in investigating JARP customer complaints when required.
• Supporting Root Cause Analysis for instances of nonconformance involving welded components.
• Assisting with returned or nonconforming product and material as part of JARP’s Warranty Evaluation process.
• Tactical responsibility for following JARP’s internal Quality Management System (QMS) audit program, with a focus on weld processes and documentation.
• Working with the shop welding team on Continuous Improvement (CI) projects to identify nonconformities such as repeat weld issues, leaks, or quality concerns.
• Performing random weld audits, verifying processes and personnel qualifications.
• Identifying the need for jigs and fixtures.
• Maintaining knowledge of PQR/WPS welder qualification to AWS D1.1.
• Maintaining basic welding equipment, scheduling maintenance for failures, and verifying calibration of welding equipment.
• Verifying welding consumables shelf life.

Requirements

• 2 years minimum cumulative experience in similar or related roles, preferably within a manufacturing or engineering environment (e.g., CWI, Welder, robotic welding).
• Experience in mentoring and training individuals and small groups.

Qualifications and Skills

• American Welding Society (AWS) – Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credentials (up to date).
• Excellent technical drawing and blueprint interpretation skills.
• Knowledge of PQR/WPS to AWS D1.1.
• Working knowledge of NDT/NDE techniques.
• Good strategic abilities – can understand situations quickly and implement suitable measures.
• Strong team-working abilities; can agree or disagree constructively.
• Good negotiation skills and ability to resolve issues effectively.
• Goal-oriented with the ability to self-prioritize.
• First-class communication skills, including writing, reading, oral, and technical presentation abilities.
• Excellent computer literacy, including adaptability to new software and technology.

Desirable further areas of study or certification include ASME endorsement, Military welding code (Navsea), Certified Process Analyst, Six Sigma (Yellow/Green belt), or other relevant certifications.
