CWD Biologist (Natural Resource Specialist 1)

About the role

This is a full time, seasonal position with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2026 through December 31, 2026. (These are estimated dates. Length of season(s) may be shortened or extended depending on project needs, funding, or factors beyond the project’s control).

Responsibilities

  • CWD database entry and data management/GIS mapping
  • Public response to phone inquiries
  • CWD sampling and collection of harvested and road-kill salvage cervid heads and carcasses
  • Online hunter CWD results reporting
  • Carcass disposal coordination
  • Hunting season check station
  • CWD sampling of carcasses
  • Carcass disposal coordination
  • Removal of targeted surveillance animals
  • Public outreach and education
  • CWD field equipment (truck, trailer, ATV) maintenance
  • Conduct aerial and ground surveys for game species
  • Wildlife capture

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science or a closely-related Bachelor's degree with at least 45 quarter (30 semester) hours of biological/ecological coursework
  • Three years of biological experience performing studies, research, or resource management activities in a fish or wildlife program

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, all applicants must meet one of the following options:

  • Option 1: A Bachelor's degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science or a closely-related Bachelor's degree with at least 45 quarter (30 semester) hours of biological/ecological coursework
  • Option 2: Three years of biological experience performing studies, research, or resource management activities in a fish or wildlife program

Skills

Experience working in remote locations

ATV experience

Experience collecting biological samples

Experience collecting and recording data

Experience with wildlife biology and physiology

Outreach and education experience

Wildlife check station experience

Big game survey experience (ground and aerial)

Capture and handling experience

The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect an additional 6.95%
