About the role

The Cut Fruit Produce Clerk plays a crucial role in Tony's Fresh Markets, where they prepare, package, and display a variety of fresh cut fruits and other prepared produce items. This position ensures all items meet quality and safety standards, maintains cleanliness, and provides excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

• Greet and build rapport with vendors.
• Display a friendly and outgoing attitude through good eye contact and body language.
• Respond to employees'/customers' questions in an effective manner.
• Perform basic produce department cleaning upkeep.
• Follow safety and sanitation procedures to ensure quality service and products for our customers.
• Prepare and cut a variety of fruits according to established guidelines and safety procedures.
• Package cut fruits in containers or trays, ensuring proper labeling and pricing.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in the cutting area, including regularly cleaning equipment, surfaces, and utensils.
• Monitor inventory levels of cut fruits and communicate with management to ensure adequate supply.
• Rotate stock and remove any expired or damaged products from display.
• Aid customers with inquiries regarding cut fruit products, including providing information on availability, ingredients, and preparation methods.
• Follow food safety guidelines to ensure the freshness and quality of all cut fruit products.
• Collaborate with other departments, such as produce and bakery, to coordinate displays and promotions.
• Operate cutting equipment and other tools safely and efficiently, following manufacturer instructions.
• Respond promptly and courteously to customer needs.
• May perform other duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum one year experience working in produce or prepared foods.
• Produce retail background preferred.
• Knowledge of different types of fruits, their seasonality, and proper handling techniques.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with customers and team members.
• Ability to lift and carry moderate to heavy loads and stand for extended periods.
• Basic math skills for weighing and pricing products accurately.
• Flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
