About the Role
The Customs Operations Manager leads and oversees all U.S. import and export customs activities, ensuring full compliance with U.S. customs regulations and driving efficient, standardized, and controlled customs operations.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for all U.S. customs inbound and outbound operational activities.
- Manage, develop, and oversee customs brokers and logistics providers in relation to all customs matters, including contractual compliance, performance management, day-to-day broker compliance oversight, and compliance with recordkeeping requirements.
- Establish and maintain controls, standards, and operating procedures for brokerage activities to ensure the compliant submission of customs declarations and the proper execution of customs procedures.
- Act as the point of contact for HSTUS classification and customs valuation matters.
- Design and support the improvement of customs processes and contribute to the implementation of related IT projects, ensuring compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
- Cook with relevant internal stakeholders, including Supply Chain & Logistics, Finance, Legal, Programs, and business units, on customs management, operational processes, and internal controls.
- Support customs and related government audits.
- Design and deliver training for relevant stakeholders to support compliant customs operations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain, Law, International Trade, or a related field, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
- 5–7 years of relevant experience managing customs operations in an in-house, multinational environment.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. customs regulations, including CBP procedures, HTSUS classification, customs valuation, country of origin rules, trade preference programs, and special customs programs such as Temporary Import under Bond, duty drawback, and Foreign-Trade Zones.
- Ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements and translate them into practical operational processes.
- Experience working with SAP; experience with SAP GTS or other trade compliance systems would be an advantage.
- Strong communication and influencing skills, a sound trade compliance mindset, and an understanding of logistics requirements.
- Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- A right mindset for customs compliance by safeguarding regulatory requirements while considering operational business needs.
