Job Responsibilities
- Obtaining and retaining invoice documentation as provided by our vendors
- Reviewing invoices for accuracy and ensuring all customs requirements are met
- Prepare and review import/export documentation including commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, and certificates of origin
- Ensure compliance with all applicable customs laws and regulations (e.g., U.S. Customs and Border Protection requirements)
- Cook up and coordinate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and carriers to ensure timely clearance of goods
- Learn and assist with classifying products using HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule) codes and determine applicable duties and taxes
- Absorb and maintain classification databases and communicate with company stakeholders
- Maintain accurate records in accordance with regulatory requirements and company policies
- Communicate and coordinate with internal departments (procurement, logistics, finance) regarding shipment status and compliance issues
- Identify and resolve discrepancies in documentation or shipment details
- Support audits and ensure proper documentation retention for compliance purposes
- Stay current on changes in trade regulations, tariffs, and international shipping requirements
- Aid with tariff reconciliations
Qualifications
- High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred
- 1+ year customs or logistics experience preferred
- Demonstrates attention to detail; strong verbal and written communication skills; and is highly organized with respect to details and information accuracy
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and staff to create a results-driven, team-oriented environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis on Excel
