Purpose

To support the customs brokerage manager in the smooth running of the department within the branch (ie) the customs product in the marketplace through focus on Operational Excellence, Financial Excellence, Business Development, Employee Development, Customer Service, and Digitization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Excellence

    • Maintain compliance with regulations and internal policies.
    • Monitor and improve operational processes for efficiency.
    • Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures.
    • Manage workload allocation to ensure smooth operations.
    • Communicate with local customs to discuss performance and plans.
    • Act as a role model for integrity and pride.
    • Contribute to continuous awareness and understanding of policies and regulations.
    • Maintain positive relationships with the Trade Compliance Manager.
  • Financial Excellence

    • Follow up on customs guarantees and refunds.
    • Review and manage accounts receivable reports.
    • Set and monitor credit limits for accounts.
    • Analyze departmental profit and loss statements.
  • Business Development

    • Support the manager and sales department in transitioning new business.
    • Report sales and retention activities in the CRM.
    • Assist with brokerage business setup and quotes.
  • Employee Development

    • Develop and mentor the No. 2 in the team.
    • Maintain compliance with company training standards.
    • Ensure all new hires complete mandatory training.
    • Participate in regular one-on-one meetings and performance reviews.
    • Lead departmental meetings and review goals.
  • Customer Service

    • Prioritize customer experience and maintain good relationships.
    • Handle customer escalations and resolve issues professionally.
    • Foster the 6 key elements of customer service within the team.
    • Support other teams as needed.
  • Digitization

    • Promote and utilize productivity tools for process improvement.
    • Be open to implementing new system changes and enhancements.
    • Contribute to onboarding and process improvements.
    • Provide customized reporting for customers.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge

    • Expeditors company policies and procedures.
    • A good understanding of Expeditors’ products, services, and systems.
    • Market and competition knowledge.
    • Customs brokerage process and system knowledge.
    • Customs legislation, particularly classification, valuation, and origin.
    • Understanding of border customs operations.
    • Knowledge of air, road, and ocean transport.
    • Hazardous Materials certification (preferred).
    • Customs tariff and customs system knowledge.
    • Working knowledge and experience of customs regulations.
  • Skills

    • Fluency in English and Spanish.
    • Effective interpersonal skills, including listening, comprehension, and communication.
    • Good Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, etc.).
    • Proactive and organized organizational skills.
    • Familiarity with digitization tools.
    • Proven negotiation skills.
    • The ability to troubleshoot and solve problems quickly and effectively.
    • The ability to maintain privileged relationships with customs authorities.
    • Role model of integrity and pride for all employees.
    • Proven leadership attitude and background.

Training Requirements

  • Meet company standards of 52 hours training per year, including as needed management/leadership training.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of Customs Brokerage experience (preferred).
  • Licensed Customs Broker (preferred).

Additional Information

The salary rate for this position is $70,304 annual base plus eligible for bonus.
