Customer Service Representative
About the Role
Under the direct supervision of the Chief Pharmacy Officer and the Pharmacy Operations Manager, the Pharmacy Cashier assists in the operations of the pharmacy by receiving new and refill prescriptions from patients, acting as cashier, and processing sales of prescriptions and other pharmacy items. This role performs routine tasks in accordance with established policies and procedures, as well as regulations set by the South Carolina Board of Pharmacy and Carolina Health Centers, Inc.
Responsibilities
- Assist the pharmacist by helping patients who are dropping off or picking up prescription orders.
- Create and maintain patient profiles, including demographic and insurance information.
- At the point of sale, verify that patients receive correct prescriptions and ensure HIPAA regulations are followed.
- Maintain knowledge of loss prevention techniques and keep accurate POS and cash records.
- Check-in wholesale orders, stock merchandise, and verify associated paperwork.
- Communicate with patients and others via telephone or electronic means to receive refill prescriptions or related information.
- Greet patients and visitors in a respectful and professional manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent (desirable).
- Work Experience: Retail cashier experience (desirable).
- Skills:
- Effective oral and written communication.
- Proficiency in computer and keyboard use.
- Ability to conduct accurate payment transactions, including making correct change for cash payments.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Knowledge of HIPAA and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to manage self and environment calmly in stressful situations.
- Physical Abilities:
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Capable of pushing, pulling, reaching, sitting, stooping, and stretching.
- Full range of body motion, hand-eye coordination, and manual dexterity for operating computers, telephones, and medical equipment.
- Required to talk and hear.
- Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
This position operates in a professional office and community pharmacy environment, routinely using standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. The role involves exposure to customer/patient elements and requires adherence to HIPAA rules and regulations. Staff must work under pressure at times with a diverse population, emphasizing teamwork, customer service, and attention to detail to ensure high-quality care.
