About the role

Consider joining the Metal Exchange family as a Customer Service & Operations Representative in our Moulton, AL location. The Customer Service & Operations Representative plays a key role in providing transportation services, inventory control, bookkeeping, and customer service for our Moulton Scrap Yard location. This position will provide appropriate, consistent, and timely communication with internal and external customers.

Responsibilities

  • Customer Service & Scale Operations
    Greet customers and give instructions as to how to proceed
    Operate truck scale within State of Alabama guidelines
    Generate, sign and approve RW settlements within MEC requirement
    Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and customers
    Provide timely and appropriate customer service to all internal and external customers
    Answer phones and back-up RW settlement RW transactions including entry, check signing & customer interaction

  • Transportation & Shipping
    Assist with dispatches for shipments to carriers per customer requirement
    Codify and ensure timely and accurate transportation, along with documentation, to/from counterparties as indicated on the contractual agreement
    Proactively arrange and manage carriers to ensure timely pickup and delivery
    Makes meetings with production to determine shipment releases
    Schedules loads with production and transportation vendors, including communicating reschedules as needed
    Creates and records shipment details/documents
    Supports initiating and coordinating pre-shipment inspection (PSI)

  • Invoice COD customers for Moulton
    Manage regulations with all CCIC containers and documentation
    Comply with local, state, and governmental regulations

  • Inventory Administration
    Ensure accurate inventory transactions involving RW piles, receiver material, and finished goods to allow accurate physical inventories and cost of goods sold
    Supports recording all receiver material into finished goods
    Supports creating finished goods from correct RW piles as required
    Supports physical position management
    Applies appropriate finished goods (cost of goods sold) to proper shipment
    Manages inventory corrections/returns/conversions
    Converts RW unfinished into finished tags
    Collects, copy and tally baler production sheets for cost center report
    Supports the production recap and supporting schedules

  • Financial & Administrative
    Maintain, balance and publish(email) check register daily
    Fax/Email all settlements over $7,000 to Accounting daily
    File settlements daily
    Sends accounts payable invoices to St. Louis
    Supports miscellaneous accounts payable checking, coding and copying
    Logs usage and fills out of appropriate PO log
    Helps manage petty cash
    Supports invoicing for yard sales
    Ensures proper check deposits for payments from COD customers
    Helps with the Scrap Dragon purchasing program for RW
    Occasionally manages purchased of various warehouse and office supplies
    Handles Inbound mail
    Performs other duties as required

Qualifications

  • Education
    High School Diploma required; Associate's Degree preferred
    Read, write, speak and understand English to 11th grade or above
    Mathematics to 10th grade or above

  • Experience
    1 year of professional work experience in an office or warehouse administration position
    Transportation experience is desired
    Inventory control experience is desired

  • Other Required Knowledge, Skills, And Experience
    Moderate to full proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel) and Outlook
    Must be detail-oriented with an ability to multi-task
    Possesses strong organizational and time management skills
    Serves the customer with excellent customer service/interpersonal skills
    Works with the intention of being team oriented, communicative, and resourceful
