Job Summary

Responsibilities

  • Greets and provides specialized services to customers.
  • Performs transactions quickly, efficiently, and professionally.
  • Provides layaway services, refunds, merchandise exchanges, and price adjustments.
  • Takes and places customer special orders, computes cost, and takes required deposits.
  • Plays an active role in tracking and updating order statuses.
  • Monitors and manages rain checks, tracks orders, and arranges for pickup/delivery.
  • Adjusts selling prices and completes necessary accounting documentation.
  • Aids customers in opening NEXCARD accounts, providing applications, and answering account-related inquiries.
  • Accepts NEXCARD payments and becomes knowledgeable in NEX store policies.
  • Serves as a point of contact for resolving customer problems and complaints.
  • Communicates information to customers knowledgeably and legibly.
  • Reviews stock assortments and communicates regularly with supervisors and managers.
  • Participates in department meetings and actively seeks to improve customer service job performance and store department sales goals.
  • Performs cash register transactions, including cash charges, checks, layaways, gift certificates, etc.
  • Shops the competition to stay informed about industry trends and services.
  • Advises customers of upcoming sales events and services offered by the Navy Exchange.
  • Maintains a high level of awareness in assigned areas and offers excellent customer service.
  • Completes paperwork associated with merchandise inventory movement, price adjustments, customer returns, cash register operation, etc., accurately and completely.
  • Aids in training new associates in store programs and policies.

Requirements

General Experience:

  • 1 year responsible experience in clerical office or retail sales store work.

Qualifications

Substitution of Education for Experience:

  • Study completed in a college, university, or junior college above the high school level may be substituted on the basis of one-half academic year of study for 6 months of experience.
