Customer Service- Cashier

About the role

The Cashier provides excellent customer service by efficiently and accurately processing customer transactions at the checkout lane. This individual creates a pleasant and friendly atmosphere, treating each customer and associate with respect. The role requires a passion for people, a commitment to customer service excellence, and the ability to work as a team member while interacting positively with customers. Integrity, reliability, and the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English are essential.

Must be authorized to work within the U.S. and able to work a schedule based on the business needs of the store location. Successful completion of e-learnings and department training programs is required.

Responsibilities

• Promote the company image by greeting, assisting, and thanking customers in a prompt, courteous, and friendly manner.
• Record all items at correct prices in their correct departments quickly and efficiently, utilizing all techniques specified in training.
• Verify identification for beer and wine purchases (where applicable).
• Follow company cash handling procedures and maintain an acceptable over/short record.
• Bag customers’ orders properly and check the register for product before the customer leaves to ensure nothing is left behind.
• Notify management of any problems, including customer inquiries or complaints, incorrect prices, poorly marked merchandise, UPC code errors, change needs, potential security issues, shrink problems, perishable overstock, or unusual situations.
• Actively participate in controlling shrink (loss of profit) through awareness of shoplifting, associate theft, and perishable overstock control.
• Keep sales and work areas clean, orderly, and free from safety hazards; report hazards to management.
• Ensure company standards of cleanliness, safety, proper food handling practices, sanitation, and productivity are achieved.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management, including roles as a Service Clerk, Self-Checkout Assistant, or Head Cashier based on business needs.
• Return shopping carts and hand baskets to the proper location.
• Assist in training new associates.

Machines, tools, and equipment utilized: Scanner, scales, adding machine, check scanner, cash register, shopping cart, POS system, phones/paging system, store computer system, bagging supplies, U-boats, approved cleaning supplies.

Pay

In accordance with MA Pay Transparency requirements, the hiring range for this position is $15.00 - $17.90 per hour. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to education, experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
