Customer Service- Cashier

Provides excellent customer service by efficiently and accurately processing customer transactions at the checkout lane. Creates a pleasant and friendly atmosphere while treating each customer and associate with respect. Must be passionate about people, committed to customer service excellence, and able to work as a team member.

Responsibilities

• Promote the company image as a service-oriented operation by greeting, assisting, and thanking customers promptly and courteously.
• Record all items at correct prices in their correct departments quickly and efficiently using trained techniques.
• Verify identification for beer and wine purchases where applicable.
• Follow company cash handling procedures and maintain acceptable over/short records.
• Bag customers’ orders properly and check the register for forgotten items before the customer leaves.
• Notify management of customer inquiries, complaints, pricing errors, UPC issues, change needs, security concerns, or other unusual situations.
• Actively participate in controlling shrink through awareness of shoplifting, associate theft, and perishable overstock control.
• Keep sales and work areas clean, orderly, and free from safety hazards; report hazards to management.
• Ensure company standards for cleanliness, safety, food handling, sanitation, and productivity are met.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including returning shopping carts, assisting in training new associates, and filling roles such as Service Clerk, Self-Checkout Assistant, or Head Cashier as needed.

Requirements

• Successful completion of e-learnings and department training programs.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Must be authorized to work within the U.S.
• Ability to work a schedule based on store business needs.
• High standard of integrity and reliability.

Physical Demands

• Occasionally (1-33%): Carrying up to 50 lbs, stooping, kneeling, or crouching (Self-checkout Assistant must carry up to 20 lbs or more).
• Frequently (34-66%): Walking on tile or concrete, pushing up to 250 lbs, bending, balancing, and smelling.
• Continuously (67-100%): Standing on tile or concrete, lifting up to 50 lbs, pulling up to 250 lbs, handling, fingering, feeling, reaching at the waist or overhead, talking, seeing, and hearing.

Safety Risk Factors

• Occasionally (1-33%): Loud noise, slippery or cluttered floors, contact with sharp objects, skin irritants, nuisance dust, fumes, sprays, and hazardous cleaning solutions.
• Continuously (67-100%): Twisting of the back and neck, and cluttered floor space.

Machines, Tools, and Equipment Utilized

• Scanner, scales, adding machine, check scanner, cash register, shopping cart, POS system, phones/paging system, store computer system, bagging supplies, U-boats, approved cleaning supplies.

Working Conditions

• Inside working environment with continuous movement of the entire body.

Pay

The hiring range for this position is $15.00 - $17.90 per hour. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to education, experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
