About the role
SAFEbuilt is seeking a dynamic individual to join our team as a Building Official. This position will be responsible for overseeing building inspections, ensuring compliance with local building codes, and providing technical guidance to developers and contractors.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all building inspections to ensure compliance with local building codes and regulations.
- Provide technical guidance to developers and contractors on building code requirements and best practices.
- Review construction plans and permits to ensure they meet local building codes and standards.
- Conduct code enforcement activities to address non-compliance issues and ensure safety in construction projects.
- Work closely with other departments such as fire prevention and code enforcement to maintain consistency in building standards.
- Participate in public meetings and provide expert testimony on building code matters.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in building inspection, preferably in a municipal setting.
- Knowledge of local building codes and state regulations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Qualifications
While not required, candidates with experience in project management, GIS, or related fields are preferred.
Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with building information modeling (BIM).
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
