Help improve the public transit experience for thousands of riders across Utah. As a Customer Experience Planning Intern at the Utah Transit Authority, you'll gain hands-on experience supporting projects that make transit easier to use, more accessible, and more customer-focused. You'll work with experienced professionals on initiatives involving customer feedback, wayfinding, accessibility, and service improvements while building valuable skills in planning, research, and data analysis. About the role

This internship is part time and will not exceed 29 hours per week. It is expected to last 6 months but may be extended up to a year. This is an in-person position that cannot be conducted remotely. If you do not live in the Salt Lake City or surrounding area, this position would require you to relocate for the full duration of the internship.

Responsibilities

  • Help plan and support projects that improve how customers experience UTA services.
  • Use data, research, and customer feedback to help create solutions that increase ridership, improve satisfaction, and strengthen the UTA brand.
  • Work with UTA teams and external partners to support customer experience initiatives.
  • Assist with project planning, research, scheduling, documentation, and other tasks that help projects move forward successfully.
  • Help improve the customer journey by supporting projects related to wayfinding and signage, customer maps, bus stop accessibility, service change communications, major events, and customer satisfaction surveys.
  • Conduct field observations and help ensure projects follow accessibility standards and support UTA's strategic goals.

Requirements

  • At least a Junior or Senior level student currently enrolled in an accredited college or university, seeking undergraduate degree in Urban Planning, Economics, Business, Math, or closely related field is required.
  • Must submit a transcript of grades and two letters of recommendation.
  • Must have a valid Utah driver's license.
  • Must be a safe driver with no more than 4 moving violations in the past 3 years.
  • Cannot have more than 2 violations of driving under the influence of alcohol, any drug, or the combined influence of any alcohol or any drug within the last 10 years.

Skills

  • Interest in transit planning and the relationship between transit information presented and transit customer needs.
  • Graphic Design knowledge and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) knowledge a plus.
  • Interest in national and global wayfinding and signage best practices.
  • Apply creative new ideas to solve problems and present solutions.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Work cooperatively with stakeholders, customers, and the general public.
