Custodian - University Housing

About the role

University Housing Facilities is seeking Custodians to join our 1st and 2nd shift teams!

Responsibilities

• Communicate with residents and guests to address needs and service requests
• Complete work in occupied or vacant residence hall and dining spaces
• Demonstrate and role model exceptional customer service
• Promote and participate in a collaborative team environment
• Maintain and implement prescribed cleaning standards
• Provide support and assist as needed in the event of an emergency

Requirements

• Maintain organization of supply areas and equipment, documents inventory, and requests additional supplies as needed
• Document and report repairs, violations, and pest control needs
• Utilize basic equipment and supplies to clean assigned facility areas and remove waste and recyclables
• Absorb and assist residents and guests with event setup and take down
• Maintain clean and clear walkways to ensure they are free of debris, litter, snow, and ice

Qualifications

• 3 months of previous cleaning, custodial, hospitality, or related experience
• 6 months of previous continuous employment

Skills

• English proficiency with the ability to speak, read, write, and understand verbal instructions
• A valid driver's license, or a valid driver's license which meets UW Risk Management standards

Benefits

Compensation: $17.51/hour with a competitive retirement and benefits package, including vacation, holidays, and paid time off.

Additional benefits include:

• Up to $2.50/hour for nighttime work on weekdays
• Up to $2.50/hour for daytime weekend work
• Up to $3.30/hour for nighttime weekend work

Schedule

• 1st shift position(s): Typical schedule is 7:30am - 4:00pm, Monday through Friday, 8-hour shifts, for total of 40 hours per week. Some positions include scheduled shifts every other weekend. Some flexibility may be possible for scheduled days, work hours, and shift lengths.
• 2nd shift position(s): Typical schedule is 3:00pm-1:30am, 4 days per week, 10-hour shifts, for a total of 40 hours per week, including rotating holidays and shifts every other weekend. Some flexibility may be possible for scheduled days and work hours.

Pay

$17.51/hour with a competitive retirement and benefits package, including vacation, holidays, and paid time off.
