About the Role
This position focuses on custodial services to maintain a clean, safe, and functional learning environment. Hours are from 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm, Monday through Friday, with the possibility of becoming full-time.
Responsibilities
- Dust, sweep, and/or mop floors as instructed.
- Wash windows and clean window sills.
- Care for and clean the grounds (playgrounds, sidewalks, entry and exit locations, etc.).
- Scrub, strip, and wax floors as scheduled.
- Clean and sanitize restroom fixtures, hardware, tile, mirrors, partitions, and floors.
- Replace restroom supplies as needed.
- Report any damage to school property and maintenance needs via the work order system.
- Replace light bulbs and fluorescent tubes as needed.
- Follow the established schedule.
- Sweep exterior walkways and remove snow/debris as directed.
- Relieve, assist, or fill in temporarily on other jobs as assigned by the supervisor.
- Know the location, proper care, and use of all firefighting equipment.
- Maintain security of classrooms, buildings, and grounds.
- Check to ensure all doors and windows are locked and buildings are free of fire hazards.
- Assist with routine maintenance during the summer months.
- Report any issues with heating, cooling, or plumbing systems immediately.
- Clean and maintain tools, supplies, and equipment after each use and store them properly.
- Secure the building at the end of the shift.
- Carry out all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Perform basic math.
- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals in English.
- Respond to or redirect inquiries from staff, students, visitors, etc.
- Understand multi-step written and oral instructions.
- Solve practical problems.
- Interpret instructions given orally, in writing, by diagram, or by form.
- Minimal use of technology, including data entry for time clock and work orders.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of people in various settings.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and talk and hear.
- Frequently required to reach, climb, bend, squat, stoop, and kneel.
- Continuously use hand strength to grasp and use tools and climb ladders.
- Frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift or move up to 90 pounds.
- Frequently push or pull items such as desks, tables, bleachers, and scrubbing machines.
- Specific vision requirements include close and peripheral vision and depth perception.
Work Conditions
- Regularly works indoors and occasionally outdoors.
- Works near or with moving mechanical equipment.
- May occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals.
- The noise level is usually moderate but can occasionally be loud.
