Custodian (Part-Time)

About the role

St. Vincent College seeks applications for a Custodian in the Facilities Maintenance Office. This part-time position does not include any other benefits.

Responsibilities

• Dusts, mops, finishes and buffs floors
• Vacuums and shampoos carpets
• Cleans, identifies needed repairs and reports to supervisor (in case of emergencies call in immediately)
• Restocks restrooms and showers
• Works with a diverse group of department heads such as the Archabbot, Prior, faculty, dept heads, students, tradesmen, outside contractors and vendors, and custodians
• Performs routine maintenance on custodial equipment
• Creates a list of supplies necessary for assigned area
• Provides coverage for absenteeism
• Understands and follows simple oral and written instructions
• Exercises care in the use of cleaning materials for different types of building surfaces
• Moves furniture and equipment to help supplement events, classes and meetings
• Lifts, pulls, pushes objects weighing up to 50 pounds

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• No experience required, but a background in custodial work preferred
• Ability to learn the materials, methods, and practices used in custodial work
• Ability to learn the operation and care of vacuum cleaners, scrubbing machines, polishing machines, and other janitorial equipment
• Ability to work from a ladder to change light bulbs, clean windows and dust
• Ability to work effectively with others
