About the role
The Custodial Lead at Jr. High is responsible for providing evening custodial services, coordinating with the Head Custodian, ensuring a sanitary and safe environment, performing special cleaning operations, overseeing facility preparation for events, and supporting assigned custodians.
Responsibilities
- Assists with site snow removal to ensure access and safety for night events.
- Cleans assigned facilities and grounds (classrooms, offices, gym, restrooms, multipurpose rooms, walkways, fence lines, etc.) to maintain a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment.
- Consults with administrative personnel (principal, assistant principal, etc.) to plan, prioritize, and schedule custodial activities.
- Delivers supplies, mail, packages, and furniture to distribute materials within the site.
- Distributes custodial supplies and equipment (cleaning solutions, paper products, vacuums, mops, etc.) to custodial staff or storage locations.
- Informs students and site personnel about activities, safety issues, and facility maintenance.
- Inspects facilities and components (fire suppression equipment, boilers, water heaters, etc.) to ensure safe operations and identify necessary repairs.
- Maintains supplies and equipment to ensure availability for proper facility maintenance.
- Manages preparation, set-up, and take-down of events (choir concerts, plays, athletic events, community-based events, etc.) ensuring materials and safety protocols are followed.
- Monitors activities in work areas (halls, multipurpose rooms, lunch rooms, restrooms, grounds, etc.) to identify and correct safety issues.
- Oversees facility maintenance activities and assigned custodial personnel to ensure compliance with site requirements and standards.
- Performs minor maintenance on custodial equipment, classroom furniture, and fixtures (e.g., changing vacuum belts, HVAC filters, greasing machinery, installing fixtures).
- Prepares written materials (safety inspections, inventory records, time sheets) to document activities.
- Prepares site for daily operations (opening gates, raising flags, sweeping walkways) to ensure facilities are operational and hazard-free.
- Replenishes classroom and restroom supplies (paper products, soap) to ensure adequate quantities for daily use.
- Responds to immediate safety and operational concerns (facility damage, vandalism, alarms) during and after hours.
- Secures facilities and grounds (doors, gates, alarms, lights) to minimize property damage, vandalism, and liability.
- Supports other site maintenance staff (grounds, trades) to complete custodial activities.
- Trains assigned personnel to develop professional trade and safety awareness skills.
- Transports tools, equipment, and supplies to ensure availability at job sites.
- Participates in meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars to gather or convey required information.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient functioning of the work unit.
Requirements
- Age 16 or older.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Job-related experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
