Custodian II

About the role

The Custodian II position at University Housing & Dining is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and healthy environment in all residence halls. This role involves performing front-line custodial duties, receiving and following instructions, developing work schedules, and assisting in planning procedures.

Responsibilities

• Performing front-line custodial duties.
• Receiving written and oral instructions concerning general custodial duties/staff.
• Developing work schedules and directing and inspecting daily work routines of other custodial staff.
• Assisting in planning procedures and work methods and advising or recommending revisions for the purposes of improving the efficiency of operations and services.
• Interviewing and recommending the hiring of custodial personnel as requested.
• Communicating with supervisor, leadership team, and staff.

Requirements

• Ability to read, write, and follow directions.
• One year of custodial or related experience.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Driving Record Review Standards.

Special Qualifications

• Knowledge and experience using computers, tablets, and related software.
• Experience cleaning commercial environments using commercial equipment in areas such as residence halls, hotels, hospitals, or nursing homes.
• Physical ability to move heavy objects (50+ lbs) properly and safely, and remain on your feet for the duration of the shift.
• Experience inspecting a variety of areas, including eye wash stations, washers/dryers, vandalism locations, and battery systems (including proper filling techniques).
• Demonstrated experience completing assigned projects from start to finish with minimal oversight.

Pay

The starting salary for this position is $37,291.68 per year.

Schedule

Generally, hours are 7:15AM to 4:00PM. Working every 3rd weekend with rotating Tuesdays and Thursdays off. May work occasional overtime to cover absences and peak periods of operation.
