Custodian I (Part-Time)

About the role

The Custodian position at Jackson George Regional Library System Ocean Springs, Mississippi, is a part-time role requiring 16 hours per week. The position is immediate start and not eligible for benefits.

Responsibilities

• Cleaning operations including front entrance, circulation/readers/stack area, staff lounge, restroom, work room, Manager’s office, meeting rooms, storage area, equipment storage, public restrooms, and other areas as necessary.
• Maintaining grounds adjacent to the building, including sweeping, removing litter, etc.
• Cleaning public restrooms: cleaning toilets, washbasins, mirrors, stall partitions, mopping floors, cleaning doors, cleaning walls as needed; filling tissue, paper towel and soap dispensers; etc.
• Cleaning staff restroom daily.
• Cleaning high-touch surfaces frequently throughout the day.
• Cleaning water fountain.
• Emptying all trash containers and disposing of properly.
• Cleaning all glass doors, top/front of display cases and outside display windows.
• Maintaining inventory of supplies/equipment and reporting needs to Manager.
• Reporting all building, equipment and furniture problems to Library Manager; correcting problems, if possible.
• Returning all janitorial supplies and equipment to the storage area.
• Sweeping outside entrance areas and sidewalk weekly.
• Dusting and mopping tile floors weekly.
• Vacuuming carpet weekly.
• Cleaning and/or polishing tabletops and countertops throughout building monthly.
• Dusting furniture and shelving monthly.
• Cleaning baseboards and windowsills monthly.
• Cleaning storage areas as needed.
• Washing windows inside and out monthly.
• Applying wood polish as needed.
• Moving tables, chairs, equipment, and furniture as directed.
• Setting up meeting rooms as needed or as possible in the schedule.
• Other miscellaneous custodial duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Knowledge of basic cleaning.
• Frequent bending, crouching, reaching, standing, pushing, pulling, and walking are required.
• Ability to perform physical labor and lift 20-50 lbs., team lift over 50 lbs.
• Ability to lift moderate to heavy furniture and equipment.
• Keep the library and grounds clean and neat, in a safe manner that meets the library’s safety standards.
• Assists in examining the library for safety hazards.
• Must follow safety work rules.
