About the role
Performs routine custodial work in maintaining the cleanliness of school buildings and surrounding grounds. Receives classroom and hands-on training in the use of cleaning tools, equipment, supplies, and safety/personal protection necessary to perform custodial work.
Responsibilities
- Clean the cafeteria after each lunch bell, clean tables, realign chairs, mop cafeteria.
- Pick up paper and trash in bathrooms and hallways; clean up spills such as vomit and other accidents.
- Pick up paper and trash around school and grounds.
- Dump trash in classrooms, clean chalkboards daily, sweep floors, dust each room, and set classrooms up for the next day.
- Wash desks for students and teachers, move classroom desks and tables (including up/down stairs).
- Set up for PTA events in the cafeteria, auditorium, and library; reset spaces afterward.
- Set up for special events and meetings.
- Vacuum floors, shampoo carpets, wash walls, fix lockers, clean rooms after school programs, wash windows, remove graffiti, and clean bathroom stalls.
- Mop bathrooms after cleaning; mop and wax hallway and classroom floors.
- Secure and lock all classrooms and outside doors at the end of the school day.
- Clean teacher's lounge.
- Perform related work as required.
Requirements
- Some knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
- Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and school staff.
- Basic ability to read and speak/understand English.
- GED or some high school education (High School Diploma preferred).
- Some custodial experience.
Physical Requirements
- Must have sensory skills to effectively communicate and interact with others (see, read, talk, hear, handle objects).
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, grasping, repetitive motion, and reaching.
- Occasional stooping, balancing, crouching, kneeling, and fingering.
- Moderate exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, extreme vibrations, hazards (electric current, chemicals, moving mechanical parts), and loud noises.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and over 50 pounds rarely.
- Timely and regular adherence to established work schedules.
- Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
Pay
Hourly Rate Range: $16.23 - $23.67. Compensation is based on job-related creditable years of full-time, verified work experience. The entry-level rate is awarded at hire and adjusted upon verification of experience.
Schedule
3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., full-time (1.000 FTE).
