Custodian/Housekeeper

This position is responsible for the general custodial and housekeeping duties of the church, office building, Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewicz Center, rectory, and ministry housing facilities. The role reports primarily to the Parish Business Administrator but also collaborates with the Pastor on specific projects. The Custodian/Housekeeper ensures parish facilities are prepared for upcoming events, including ordering necessary cleaning supplies and performing physical clean-up.

Schedule

Hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. May be required to work some evenings and weekends for special events.

Responsibilities

  • Support and uphold the faith and morals of Catholic ministry and the mission of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in both professional and personal life.
  • Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Spend ten minutes during each workday in prayer before the tabernacle.
  • Work with the Parish Business Administrator (Church/Office/Ministry Houses), Pastor (Rectory), and School Custodian (Center) to identify janitorial needs of each building.
  • Work directly with the Parish Business Administrator to schedule and complete tasks.
  • Develop and implement a routine custodial schedule for each building.
  • Perform general overall cleaning, including but not limited to: bathrooms, dusting, mopping, vacuuming, windows, and disposal of trash as needed.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years of experience in the custodial field.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs.
  • Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM/Virtus) policies throughout employment.

Working Conditions

  • All employees are engaged in ministry and closely tied to the Pastor in the exercise of his ministry and obligations to the Church.
  • Employment is at-will, meaning it may be terminated by the employee or employer with or without notice at any time.
  • All buildings and vehicles owned by Sacred Heart Catholic Church are tobacco-free.
  • Works in a fast-paced environment with priorities and plans that may change rapidly.
  • Exposure to religious ceremonies, conduct, and speech, including Roman Catholic Christian prayer and liturgical celebrations.
  • Required to adhere to established codes and conduct standards, including EIM standards of conduct in and outside the workplace.
  • May be required to use a personal vehicle to drive to other parishes or off-site locations.
  • Must conform personal and professional activities to be consistent with and supportive of the mission, purpose, and moral teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
