Custodian - G111 Facilities Maintenance

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs custodial duties in lobby areas, halls, meeting rooms, offices, and restrooms.
• Vacuums and shampoos carpets, sweeps, mops, scrubs, and waxes floors, washes windows, dusts areas, including hard-to-reach areas, empties trash cans, cleans toilets, sink basins, and counters, shines mirrors and faucets.
• Sweeps parking lots and exterior walkways, cleans exterior areas as needed.
• Maintains inventory of all supplies required to perform the duties of the position.
• Moves custodial items and other miscellaneous items from one place to another.
• Affords assistance to Event Attendants when tasks are assigned.
• Carries out a continuous effort to improve operations, work processes, and works cooperatively and jointly to provide continuous improvement and customer-driven service.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of cleaning techniques, equipment, and compounds, and their proper uses.
• Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Operational proficiency with commercial floor cleaning equipment.

Minimum Educational and Training Requirements

• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
• Valid driver's license.

Physical Requirements

• The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping.
• Frequent lifting of light and heavy objects, using tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.

• Preparing, analyzing data, transcribing, computer terminal, extensive reading.
• Determining accuracy, neatness, observing facilities/structures.
• Operating motor vehicles/heavy equipment.
• Close acuity for inspection of small defects, machines, use measurement devices, or fabricate parts.
• Walking on foot to accomplish tasks, long distances, or site to site.
• Exposure to dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and irritating chemicals.
• Use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
