Custodian (Full Time)

About the role

The custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and orderliness of Zoo facilities by performing various cleaning tasks such as sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, trash removal, and restroom sanitation, often using specialized cleaning equipment and chemicals, to ensure a hygienic and functional environment for occupants. They may also perform minor maintenance tasks as needed.

Responsibilities

• Keep building and property in clean and orderly condition.
• Performs routine maintenance activities.
• Performs heavy cleaning duties.
• Sweeps, mops, scrubs, or vacuums floors.
• Gathers and empties trash.
• Scrubbs, sanitizes, and supplies restroom facilities.
• Dusts furniture, walls, and equipment.
• Cleans windows, mirrors, and partitions with soap and other cleansers.
• Mixes cleaning solutions and chemicals in containers in preparation for cleaning, according to instructions.
• Uses a handheld device to scan NFC tags and complete on-screen steps.
• Responsible for equipment, display and fixture inventory and maintenance.
• Ensures a positive guest experience by communicating with guests in a professional and courteous manner.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One year of relevant experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience, demonstrating the ability to perform the responsibilities and requirements outlined above.
• Experience with using cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, and cleaning solutions.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards safety rules.

Pay

Full-time positions are defined as positions scheduled to work approximately up to 40 hours a week. Scheduling is at the discretion of the manager. This position regularly requires flexible hours including weekdays, holidays, and weekends including early morning, daytime, and evening hours to provide coverage during Zoo hours of operation and events. This position is considered non-exempt under the federal and state wage and hour laws.
