Custodian - Fidelis

About the role

A custodian maintains cleanliness, safety, and functionality of school facilities by performing a variety of cleaning, maintenance, and operational tasks.

Responsibilities

• Cleans, sweeps, mops, and scrubs floors, stairways, and hallways
• Dusts and cleans furniture, equipment, fixtures, window sills, interior window railings, chalk rails, and blackboards
• Polishes hardware and gathers and removes waste from the building
• Scrubs and disinfects toilets, wash bowls, urinals, and washroom fixtures; replenishes bathroom supplies
• Moves and arranges furniture; replaces fluorescent light bulbs and cleans fixtures
• Receives supplies and transports them to proper storage locations
• Disposes of trash in and around the school and surrounding area
• Cleans main entrance windows inside and out
• Operates and maintains equipment including scrubbing machines, wet/dry vacuums, and blowers
• Applies knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment used in school buildings, including floor care and ventilating equipment
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with custodial personnel, faculty, students, and the public
• Conducts all business in accordance with Open Sky policies, procedures, and state and federal laws (e.g., OSHA, ADA)
• Practices preventative maintenance and safety; maintains awareness of proper safety conditions
• Observes the condition of school property and reports or corrects unsafe conditions immediately
• Maintains an inventory of supplies as needed
• Works collaboratively with regional facilities and notifies them promptly of any maintenance needs
• Performs additional duties as assigned by the School Operations Manager, Regional School Operations Manager, or Director of Operations

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Minimum of one year of custodial experience
• Meets all physical demands of the position
• Ability to learn routine repetitive tasks quickly
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
• Works quickly and efficiently
• Experience working in a school setting strongly preferred
• Willingness to accept, implement, and grow from constructive feedback
