Custodian

About the role

The Custodian at FRANKLIN COUNTY LIBRARY SYSTEM is responsible for maintaining clean, orderly, and safe library facilities.

Responsibilities

• Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, trash removal, and restroom sanitation
• Basic upkeep of indoor and outdoor entryways
• Auxiliary tasks such as setting up and breaking down furniture and equipment for programs and events
• Restocking supplies
• Reporting maintenance needs or safety concerns

Qualifications

• Experience with general custodial duties, including cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining floors, restrooms, and common areas
• Ability to use basic cleaning tools and equipment safely and follow established procedures
• Strong attention to detail, time management skills, and ability to prioritize tasks in a busy public environment
• Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and carry materials and equipment as needed throughout a work shift
• Dependable work habits, punctuality, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Clear and courteous communication skills for interacting with staff, patrons, and vendors
• Commitment to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all library visitors and employees

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Prior custodial or facilities experience in a public or educational setting is a plus
• Valid driver's license required
• Must be able to pass all required background checks
