About the role

Incumbent will fly to San Clemente Island from Naval Base Coronado on Monday mornings and live/work on the island during the week, returning to Naval Base Coronado on Friday afternoons. Lodging will be provided at San Clemente Island (single room with shared bathroom and kitchenette). A company vehicle will also be provided for work use.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize work, and meet all deadlines.
• Clean and sanitize restroom facilities and related fixtures including drinking fountains, refrigerated water coolers, custodial mop sinks, restroom sinks, urinals, showers, and toilets.
• Sweep, vacuum, and mop floors.
• Replenish supplies in restrooms and facilities.
• Dust (both high and low areas), polish furniture, woodwork, fixtures, and equipment.
• Wash windows (both interior and exterior), mirrors, and walls, which may require the use of ladders.
• Empty, clean, and sanitize waste receptacles.
• Move and arrange furniture and equipment for cleaning and replacement.
• Clean window blinds (Venetian or vertical as required).
• Identify and report building maintenance needs in assigned buildings and facilities.
• Perform specialized projects such as restoration programs on floors, walls, ceilings, furniture, and other items.
• Timely, cost-effective performance of duties.
• Adherence to contract requirements and CSEL policies.
• Work closely and harmoniously with fellow workers.
• Adhere to all safety and health rules and regulations.
• Timely reporting of accidents, injuries, “near-miss,” and hazardous situations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• General knowledge of hand and power tools.
• At least 1 year of custodial experience.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Mature judgment and ability to work with little or no supervision.
• U.S. Citizen or legal residency alien.
• Valid state driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Willing to travel to San Clemente Island (air travel to and from Naval Base Coronado is provided) and live/work on the island during the week (boarding is provided including kitchenette and shared bathroom).
• Must be able to pass a background investigation.

Preferred: 2 years of janitorial experience.

Working Conditions

• Work is performed mostly indoors, with some outdoor work required when directed. Outdoor work is subject to temperature extremes and inclement weather conditions.
• Work hours are subject to change, with overtime, nights, weekends, and/or holiday work as needed.
• Subject to hazards that may cause personal bodily harm; diseases, cuts, bruises, burns, common colds, influenza, dust odors, and elevated noise levels.
• Tasks may be performed on uneven, inclined, hard and soft-carpeted floors, cement structures and surfaces, and elevated levels using ladders.
• Occasionally required to stand and/or walk for long periods, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, climb ladders, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or hear, taste or smell.
• Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to climb stairs and ladders as required.
• Must be able to load/unload materials, tools, and equipment.
• Involves walking, bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching.

Pay

Pay Rate: $24.06 base + $2.50/hr. differential + $1.25/hr. differential + $1.75/hr. differential = $29.56/hr.
