250-day contract, 8 hours per day. Hourly rate: $18.63–20.94 depending on experience and qualifications.

About the role

The Custodian provides custodial services at an assigned site, ensuring an attractive, sanitary, and safe environment for students, staff, and visitors. Responsibilities include performing a variety of special cleaning operations, overseeing the preparation of facilities for classroom activities and campus events, supporting fellow custodians, and completing assignments safely and promptly.

Responsibilities

• Assists with site snow removal to ensure access and safety for students, staff, and visitors.
• Attends unit meetings, in-service training, and workshops to gather information required for job functions.
• Cleans assigned facilities and grounds (e.g., classrooms, offices, gym, restrooms, multipurpose rooms, pools, grounds) to maintain a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment.
• Delivers supplies, mail, packages, and furniture to distribute materials to appropriate parties within the site.
• Informs students and site personnel regarding activities, safety issues, and proper maintenance of facilities and equipment.
• Lifts up to 80 pounds and may push/pull up to 150 pounds for site maintenance, material distribution, and safety.
• Monitors activities in and around work areas (e.g., halls, multipurpose rooms, lunchrooms, restrooms, grounds) to prevent injuries and ensure site safety.
• Performs summer maintenance (e.g., strip/wax floors, moves furniture, painting) to complete or facilitate summer construction.
• Performs minor maintenance on custodial equipment, classroom furniture, and fixtures (e.g., changing vacuum cleaner belts, bags) to ensure proper functioning.
• Prepares the site for daily operations (e.g., opening gates, raising flags, sweeping walkways) to ensure facilities are operational and hazard-free.
• Replenishes classroom and restroom supplies (e.g., paper towels, soap) to ensure adequate quantities for daily use.
• Responds to immediate safety and operational concerns (e.g., facility damage, vandalism, alarms) by taking appropriate action or notifying personnel for resolution.
• Responds to inquiries from staff, students, parents, and visitors to provide information, take action, or direct to appropriate personnel.
• Secures facilities and grounds (e.g., doors, gates, alarms, lights) to minimize property damage, equipment loss, or potential liability.
• Supports other site maintenance staff (e.g., grounds, trades) to complete custodial activities.
• Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Requirements

• Age 18 or older.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Job-related experience is required.
