About the role
Under supervision from the Custodial Squad Leader or Custodial Supervisor, you will perform cleaning, unskilled building maintenance, event set-ups, and animal/insect control across a variety of College facilities—including offices, laboratories, dining halls, public spaces, and auditoriums. This is a 3rd-shift Squad Leader Custodian position; multiple hires are anticipated.
Schedule
- 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM, five nights per week (two consecutive days off)
- Shift differential included
- Mandatory overtime as required
Pay
$24.88 per hour.
Location
McKenzie Hall, 6 Vox Lane, Hanover, NH 03755 (onsite only).
Responsibilities
- Daily: unlock/lock assigned spaces; clean, mop, strip, wax, and buff hard-surface floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets; wash windows (inside and outside); dust furniture and sills; clean public restrooms and showers (scour, disinfect, deodorize, restock supplies); empty trash and implement recycling procedures; remove loose trash from building perimeters.
- As-needed: set up and break down College events (e.g., 30 eight-foot tables and 350 chairs); arrange tables, chairs, lecterns, podiums, dividers, platforms, and coat racks per work-order specifications; place table covers.
- As-needed: clean light fixtures and replace bulbs using a step ladder; sweep leaves and shovel snow from walkways; spread sand within three feet of entrances.
- As-needed: set rodent traps and release captured animals outdoors; apply insect-control chemicals inside and outside buildings.
- Monitor and report cleaning-supply needs and equipment repairs to the Squad Leader; occasionally act in the Squad Leader’s absence or assist the Squad Leader.
- Demonstrate commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness; participate in division-wide DEI initiatives and training.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 1–2 years of custodial or related experience.
- Ability to operate and maintain industrial cleaning equipment (vacuums, buffers, carpet shampooers) and hand tools.
- Safe use of cleaning chemicals and insect-control substances.
- Familiarity with event set-up arrangements or ability to learn them.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Capability to perform moderate-to-heavy physical labor, including lifting and carrying objects.
- Must complete Hazard Communication and Blood Borne Pathogens training before performing related work.
