About the role
The Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is seeking two full-time (37.5 hours/week) Custodians for the CT Mental Health Center (CMHC) in New Haven.
Schedule
- First shift: 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM
- Monday - Friday

Position Highlights
- Performs general custodial cleaning in patient areas
- Dusts, mops, sweeps, scrubs, strips, waxes, and polishes floors using appropriate equipment
- Cleans and polishes glass, windows, woodwork, walls, furniture, and metal surfaces
- Collects and disposes of trash and soiled laundry
- Reports repair needs and performs minor maintenance tasks

CMHC provides comprehensive mental health treatment to individuals with serious behavioral health disorders that often frequent the local hospital emergency rooms, are frequently involved in the court systems, and require a variety of clinical services to provide stability, medication management, and treatment.

Qualifications
- Experience with infection prevention/control cleaning procedures
- Experience with keeping cleaning supplies safe while working around others

- Experience removing snow and ice from stairways and walkways
- Experience performing minor maintenance on tools and equipment used in daily work
- Experience with deep cleaning and disinfecting a psychiatric or hospital environment
Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits, and/or certifications.
Physical Requirements
- A physical examination may be required
- May lift moderate to heavy weights
- May be exposed to risk of injury from equipment and/or individuals
