About the role
This position is responsible for providing an atmosphere that is conducive to the learning situation, maintaining high standards of cleanliness, and performing preventive maintenance on equipment.
Responsibilities
- Dust mopping the gym floor, stage, and bleachers.
- Dust mopping and wet mopping classroom floors and hallways.
- Vacuuming rugs and carpeted floors.
- Moving furniture including chairs, tables, and desks.
- Changing light bulbs.
- Emptying trash and carrying it to dumpsters.
- Servicing, cleaning, and supplying restrooms.
- Mixing water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
- Following procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
- Monitoring building security and safety by performing tasks such as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use.
- Keeping buildings and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas, neat and clean at all times.
- Regulating heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for appropriate seasonal temperatures and economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.
- Assisting with snow removal where appropriate.
- Checking daily to ensure all exit doors are open and panic bolts are working properly.
- Surveying classrooms daily and dusting/polishing furniture, files, bookcases, and window sills.
- Moving heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies manually or using hand trucks.
- Notifying managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
- Dusting furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.
- Cleaning corridors daily.
- Scrubbing, mopping, and disinfecting toilet floors daily, and cleaning all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
- Washing all windows on the inside and those reachable on the outside at least once each year (more frequently if necessary). Weekly cleaning for public entry windows if needed.
- Helping keep grounds free of rubbish.
- Cleaning chalkboards/marker boards and trays daily.
- Reporting any major repairs needed to the building principal, maintenance supervisor, or administrative assistant.
- Assuming responsibility for cleaning and mopping the cafeteria and kitchen floors if assigned.
- Thoroughly cleaning cafeteria chairs, tables, and benches at least twice a year.
- Moving furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities.
- Removing snow from sidewalks and spreading snow-melting chemicals.
- Requisitioning supplies and equipment needed for cleaning.
- Setting up, arranging, and removing decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, and scaffolding for events such as banquets and meetings.
- Complying with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.
- Performing emergency repairs and/or cleaning services as needed.
- Keeping storage rooms neat and orderly; disposing of all cardboard.
- Performing other duties as assigned by administration.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- General knowledge of cleaning supplies and equipment.
- Ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions.
- Ability to be on your feet for long periods of time.
- Ability to enforce school regulations and policies in a professional manner.
- Ability to maintain good working relationships with fellow employees and pupils.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to carry up to 35 lbs.
- Ability to push/pull up to 26 lbs.
Schedule
Work hours for this position are from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM. The schedule is subject to change with District demands. Overtime is required when requested.
Pay
Per the 2026-2027 Custodial/Maintenance Salary Schedule, the starting pay range is $20.28 - $21.10 per hour and is based on experience.
