Custodial Coordinator
About the role
The Custodial Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the daily and short-term operations of Custodial Services. This role provides comprehensive administrative and operational support by offering both specific and general direction and leadership to Lead Custodians and Custodians in the planning, implementation, delivery, and maintenance of custodial programs and services.
Responsibilities
- Consults with managers and lead custodians to discuss problem areas and identify means of improvements.
- Facilitates the development of the custodial cleaning programs to achieve the highest possible custodial APPA levels.
- Conducts inspections as required to ensure that quality standards are being maintained.
- Interfaces with faculty and staff members, following up on work requests, inquiries, and related concerns.
- Determines the replacement or additional equipment needs for all activities.
- Works effectively with department staff and managers in coordinating operations and work schedules.
- Effectively oversees process changes, from conceptual discussions with stakeholders to training frontline employees.
- Prioritizes program goals, implementation strategies, work requirements and communicates them effectively to staff.
- Helps plan, organize, and communicate when starting new programs with staff and building occupants.
- Plans, organizes, schedules, and oversees the custodial training program.
- Provides positive leadership for staff in all Custodial program areas.
- Aid with day-to-day custodial operations, provides guidance on best practices, and assists employees with problem-solving.
- Adjusts and modifies daily custodial assignments to meet operational needs.
- Provide supervisory coverage during absences or leave, ensuring adequate oversight and continuity of custodial operations.
- Establishes long- and short-range goals for each of the activities managed.
- Coordinate closely with deans, department heads and college/department staff in achieving our cleaning goals.
- Operational recommendations of the Managers of Custodial Services.
- Conducts building surveys to determine program staffing needs.
- Assist with training for new employees.
- Provides input for employee performance evaluations and prepares recommended annual evaluations for submission to Management.
- Responds to inquiries from Facilities Management staff and managers concerning status of operations.
- Communicates staff and coordinator concerns to appropriate managers.
- Works with Microsoft Office software, and computerized maintenance management (Web TMA) and accounting system databases as needed.
- Coordinates other duties as assigned.
- May coordinate tasks for other departments (example: Grounds), as needed.
Requirements
- Must possess a working knowledge of the full range of Custodian / Lead Custodian work as described in the Job Description and Job Classification.
- Must have a minimum of five (5) years’ experience of direct custodial coordination experience in an institution or environment comparable to the University.
- Ability to organize custodial projects and independently determine plans and priorities for the projects.
- Ability to independently develop programs, policies, and procedures for continual improvement.
- Demonstrated customer service attitude.
- Ability to interpret and apply university policies, procedures and regulations.
- Ability to develop, interpret and apply accurate, multiple and precise custodial operations.
- Ability to perform product research and make comparisons of different custodial work practices, methodologies, products and equipment.
- Ability to train others on new custodial skills, practices and procedures and provide leadership direction.
- Ability to effectively write and present reports.
- Ability to work in an environment of demanding pressures and short deadlines.
- Proficiency in the use of office software programs, technology and systems, spreadsheets and database management programs and communication.
- Working knowledge of floor care, general cleaning, and restroom sanitizing procedures.
- Working knowledge of custodial equipment, procedures and supplies.
- Possess the skills and ability to directly/indirectly coordinate a large staff including the planning, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating the work of others.
- Proficient in the English language, writing and oral.
- Knowledge of record keeping which includes maintaining records, logs, and filing systems.

Pay
The starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and is anticipated to be in the range of $5,274.00 per month to $6,558.00 per month (Step 1 - Step 12).
