General Summary
The Culinary Assistant is responsible for providing a high standard of service. Plating food prepared by the cooks to the standard established by the Culinary Services Manager. Dining room maintenance, dining room breakdown and set-up. This role also includes cleaning, re-stocking, and assisting the Culinary Service Manager with daily tasks when working outside of meal service times.
Essential Job Functions
- Ensures resident satisfaction regarding meals through quality, quantity, and presentation.
- Observes and practices all department safety and sanitation standards.
- Attends all allergy and foodborne illness in-service training.
- Sets up and breaks down the resident dining rooms for breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals.
- Uses the dishwasher to clean breakfast, lunch, and dinner dishes, utensils, pots and pans.
- Will assist with dining service as needed including food delivery, plating with garnish, etc.
- Works the food tray-line. Completes tray delivery.
- Makes appropriate meal and beverage suggestions and answers questions regarding food preparation.
- Assists care staff and residents with drinks, salads and desserts according to diet order.
- Sorts the food tray carts and places in cart in proper sequence.
- Affords assistance with putting away food deliveries and stocking of pantry, ensuring proper rotation of items.
- Completes cleaning assignments in the dietary services areas using proper chemicals, mops, and brooms.
- Works as a team member to foster and ensure excellent communication and cooperation within the department.
- Performs other duties as directed.
Physical Demands And Working Conditions
- Must be able to properly lift 30 pounds.
- Physical demands vary from sedentary activities to hands-on resident assistance which includes lifting, bending from the waist, stooping, and twisting as conditions warrant.
- May include infrequent maximum assists of residents over 100 lbs. Objects or residents weighing more than 50 pounds should not be moved without the assistance of another worker and/or appropriate equipment.
- Must be able to work standing for prolonged periods.
- Hours of duty may be long and irregular, including evenings, weekends and some holidays.
Qualifications
- Must obtain a food handler card within 30 days of hire date.
- Must possess good English communication skills (oral and written).
- Must know basic kitchen sanitation.
- GHS required: High school graduation or equivalent GED.
- Experience preferred: 1 to 2 years related experience.
