About the role

At Rehab Without Walls Neuro Rehabilitation, our clinicians walk alongside clients as they recover strength, confidence, and joy in everyday life. We help individuals with brain, spinal cord, and other neurological injuries rebuild independence through personalized, goal-driven therapy that occurs out in the community.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes and coordinates recreation activities, functional leisure skills, and leisure education.
  • Interviews the person served to assess capabilities/interests/barriers.
  • Makes recommendations for changes and modifications to the program based on progress.
  • Consults with physicians and other members of the rehabilitation team regarding therapeutic recreation goals for program referrals.
  • Collaborates with staff and the rehabilitation team to develop and implement care plans.
  • Communicates with community service organizations to secure resources for recreational programs.
  • Acts as a liaison to outside community recreation/leisure agencies.
  • Designs community reintegration activities to support the person receiving services with their physical and cognitive needs during physical recreational/leisure activities.
  • Assists the person receiving services in understanding their needs and limitations and how to manage them during function.
  • Trains the person receiving services and others involved in their rehabilitation.
  • Analyzes and documents the results of any training provided.
  • Performs thorough evaluations, sets measurable objectives, and collaborates with the rehabilitation team to achieve maximum results.
  • Applies professional knowledge and skills to resolve problems and achieve individualized goals and outcomes for the person served.
  • Reports progress to the rehabilitation staff, person receiving services, and family members.
  • Observes and documents changes in the condition of the person served and reports these to the Clinical Coordinator/designee, attending physician, and other treatment team members as appropriate.
  • Documents treatment progress and status in accordance with the Plan of Treatment.
  • Participates in team processes, provides input, and implements effective treatment strategies.
  • Attends case conferences and family educational meetings.
  • Develops, teaches, and assesses the plan of treatment.
  • Guides the Rehabilitation Specialist/Certified Nursing Assistant in fulfilling the plan.
  • Uses appropriate methods and tools in all teaching and training activities, including those related to discharge.
  • Maintains the highest standards of professional conduct in relation to confidential information.
  • Shares information only when the recipient’s right to access is clearly established and the sharing is in the best interest of the person served.
  • Collects and documents items necessary for thorough and effective program evaluation and improvement.
  • Attends, participates in, and/or conducts internal staff development programs.
  • Obtains continuing education as required by company policy and regulations.
  • Maintains and enhances clinical practice skills.

Qualifications

  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification is required.
  • The candidate must successfully complete any/all required pre-employment evaluation tests per policy in each assigned area of practice.
  • Good organizational and communication skills are needed.
  • Ability to function with minimum supervision.
  • Reliable transportation is required.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation Therapy or the equivalent with a minimum of two years therapeutic therapy experience is required.
  • Knowledge of complex neurologic injury and orthopedic rehabilitation techniques is generally required.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic recreation program design and the ability to obtain National Therapeutic Recreational Specialist certification within one year of employment is required.
  • Maintain professional license and/or certification as required by the state in which the therapist practices.
  • Effective communication skills are also required.
