Responsibilities
- Assess patients' recreational interests, abilities, and treatment needs
- Develop and implement individualized therapeutic recreation programs
- Facilitate leisure, community reintegration, and functional activity interventions
- Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and rehabilitation team members to support patient goals
- Educate patients and families on leisure resources and strategies for ongoing success
- Monitor progress, document outcomes, and modify treatment plans as needed
- Support patients in building confidence, independence, and engagement in meaningful activities
Qualifications
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification
- Successful completion of any/all required pre-employment evaluation tests per policy in each assigned area of practice
- Good organizational and communication skills
- Ability to function with minimum supervision
- Reliable transportation
- Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation Therapy or the equivalent plus a minimum of two years therapeutic therapy experience
- Knowledge of complex neurologic injury and orthopedic rehabilitation techniques
- Knowledge of therapeutic recreation program design and the ability to obtain National Therapeutic Recreational Specialist certification within one year of employment
- Maintain professional license and/or certification as required by the state in which the therapist practices
- Effective communication skills
