CTRS - Therapeutic Recreation Specialist

Responsibilities

• Assess patients' recreational interests, abilities, and treatment needs
• Develop and implement individualized therapeutic recreation programs
• Facilitate leisure, community reintegration, and functional activity interventions
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and rehabilitation team members to support patient goals
• Educate patients and families on leisure resources and strategies for ongoing success
• Monitor progress, document outcomes, and modify treatment plans as needed
• Support patients in building confidence, independence, and engagement in meaningful activities

Qualifications

• Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification
• Successful completion of any/all required pre-employment evaluation tests per policy in each assigned area of practice
• Good organizational and communication skills
• Ability to function with minimum supervision
• Reliable transportation
• Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation Therapy or the equivalent plus a minimum of two years therapeutic therapy experience
• Knowledge of complex neurologic injury and orthopedic rehabilitation techniques
• Knowledge of therapeutic recreation program design and the ability to obtain National Therapeutic Recreational Specialist certification within one year of employment
• Maintain professional license and/or certification as required by the state in which the therapist practices
• Effective communication skills
