About the role

The CTE Specialist (11m) provides leadership and support in administering, testing, monitoring and implementing the requirements for a quality CTE program. The specialist collaborates with administrators, instructional staff, and community members in assuring that appropriate CTE curriculum and instructional practices are occurring in all classrooms and assists the administrative team with program administration.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in promoting high-quality curriculum and instruction aligned with state curriculum standards and reflect regional or local labor market demands and focus on current or emerging high-skill, high-wage, or high-demand occupations.
  • Assist Department Chairs with a comprehensive program consisting of over 60 courses and 40 teachers, duties include but not limited to:
    • Holding monthly meetings with department chairs.
    • Serving as a liaison between administration and PLC leads.
    • Fielding teacher questions and concerns.
    • Collaborating with teachers and Academic Principal related to new course requests.
    • Attending Instructional Leadership Team meetings.
    • Collaborate with the school counseling program related to:
      • Informing counselors about CTE regulations and requirements.
    • Working with the district CTE Director to build the annual CTE test budget, data collection, Perkins, Advisory Committee, and other initiatives.
    • Facilitating annual data collection and reports related to CTE completers, industry testing, and other requested data.
    • Aid in recruiting and retaining a skilled staff and provide professional development opportunities for those teachers and faculty.
    • Lead planner for the annual Pathways Expo.
    • Collaborate with the school Instructional Coach on special projects.

    Requirements

    This 11-month, 216 day Licensed position Reports to the Academic Principal of Career and Technical Education.

    Qualifications

    • Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Technology Education or related areas such as Engineering or STEM. Master’s degree preferred.
    • Certificates & Licenses: A Valid Virginia Department of Education CTE license is required, or eligibility to obtain one.
    • Experience: A minimum of five years secondary teaching experience in related field to CTE required. Experience teaching or working in a CTE, STEM, engineering or engineering-related field perferred. Thorough knowledge of Virginia CTE programs, regulations, Perkins, and graduation requirements.

    Step Placement and Salary for this position is determined by The ACPS Teachers and Other Licensed Staff Salary Scale. Exempt position status - This position is classified as exempt, meaning it is not eligible for overtime pay under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
