About the role

Career-Technical Instructors prepare students to meet entry-level knowledge and skill requirements in their specialty areas. This full-time position reports to the Dean of Career and Technical Education and involves up to 25% travel.

Responsibilities

  • Teach students the occupational competencies necessary for employment.
  • Prepare course competency-based outlines for each instructional course or program.
  • Develop detailed lesson plans, job sheets, and laboratory experiments for all units of instruction.
  • Recommend changes to the total curriculum to maintain an up-to-date program.
  • Develop and maintain the progress of each student in the program.
  • Teach related subject matter and supervise laboratory experience.
  • Develop a schedule of courses for each semester.
  • Review and select instructional materials such as textbooks and audio-visual materials.
  • Complete requests for supplies and other instructional materials on a timely basis.
  • Complete enrollment and follow-up reports.
  • Assist in the development of an annual budget for the instructional program.
  • Maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment.
  • Recommend new and/or replacement equipment to be purchased for the program.
  • Maintain proper inventory of all equipment and tools assigned to the program.
  • Keep equipment functioning and in good working order by establishing an effective preventive maintenance system.
  • Maintain an active craft committee that meets twice a year.
  • Visit industry to develop rapport with potential employers.
  • Take an active role in the advisement and counseling of students.
  • Help students find employment in an occupation related to training.
  • Fulfill requirements of career license certification by attending specified classes and workshops.
  • Serve on various faculty committees.
  • Attend faculty meetings and workshops.
  • Perform assigned duties on orientation days scheduled during summer months.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Certification in Welding.
  • Five (5) or more years of industry experience in Welding.
  • AWS Certification (preferred).
  • Teaching experience (preferred).
  • Supervisory experience (preferred).
