About the role

This position is for a Family Consumer Science (FACS) Teacher at Bennion Junior High School for the 2026-2027 school year.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an orderly teaching lab following all required safety procedures.
  • Utilize lab equipment to apply concepts found in USBE's CTE Core Curriculum.
  • Teach the core content area(s) outlined in the USBE's Core Curriculum, and adopted by the Board of Education, correlated with other approved learning activities.
  • Create lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the child.
  • Utilize effective teaching techniques in translating lesson plans into productive student learning experiences which best utilize the time available for instruction.
  • Use computers and other technological classroom support equipment in student instruction.
  • Supervise students requiring both indoor and outdoor responsibilities (e.g. recess duty, gymnasium activities, etc.) in all types of weather and air quality.
  • Evaluate students' academic and social growth, maintain appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
  • Be familiar with and willing to implement Proficiency-Based Learning in evaluating students.
  • Be familiar with and willing to implement the Granite Way.
  • Communicate with parents through conferences, telephone calls, e-mails, student planners, school website, and other appropriate means, to discuss the student's progress.
  • Communicate and cooperate with other professional staff regarding the student's academic and personal growth areas.
  • Create an effective learning environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and interest centers.
  • Maintain an effective learning environment in the classroom and on the school campus.
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school district and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Participate in faculty meetings as required.
  • Administer appropriate student attendance policies and procedures.
  • Participate in appropriate educator evaluation procedures as per district guidelines.
  • Administer group standardized tests in accordance with state and district testing procedures.
  • Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
  • Select and requisition books and instruction materials; maintain required inventory records.
  • Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, colleagues, and members of the community.
  • Understand and adhere to laws, district policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, school staff, district staff, and members of the community.
  • Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission.
  • Be a positive role model.

    Requirements

    • Valid Professional Educator License issued by the Utah State Board of Education with a Secondary or CTE License Area of Concentration with one of the following endorsements: Family & Consumer Sciences Basic, Family & Consumer Sciences (6-8), Family & Consumer Sciences (CTE/General), Family Consumer Sciences Essentials.
    • Valid Associate Secondary Educator License issued by the Utah State Board of Education with a Secondary or CTE License Area of Concentration with one of the following endorsements: Family & Consumer Sciences Basic, Family & Consumer Sciences (6-8), Family & Consumer Sciences (CTE/General).
    • A current out-of-state license with a Family & Consumer Sciences related endorsement.
    • New graduates from teacher preparation programs who have not yet received their official teaching license should upload a conferral letter from their university in place of the license.
    • Official copy of the teaching license and degree will be required upon hire.
    • Hold a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a directly related field such as: Family & Consumer Sciences, Human Development & Family Studies, Food Science and Human Nutrition, Design & Merchandising.
    • Complete a minimum of two (2.0) credits of coursework in each of the following subject areas within the past fifteen (15) years: Marriage Family or Human Development, Food Science, Culinary Arts or Nutrition Lab course, Intermediate Sewing/Sewing Construction, Interior Design/Housing.
    • All courses must have a C' or higher grade to be accepted.

      • If approved for an Associate License, please upload your AEL eligibility letter in lieu of a full teaching license.
      • New graduates from teacher preparation programs who have not yet received their official teaching license should upload a conferral letter from their university in place of the license.
      • The conferral letter must be on official university letterhead and must include:The degree earnedThe anticipated graduation dateThe type of license and content area(s) in which the candidate will be recommended to the Utah State Board of Education.
      • Candidates must have officially graduated prior to the position start date.
      • An official copy of the teaching license and degree will be required upon hire.
      • If qualifying by university degree only, applicant should upload the applicable degree when asked for a teaching license.
      • If qualifying based on courses completed, a college transcript must be attached with courses circled that document ten (10) credits in the five (5) areas listed above.

    • Ability to provide hands-on training and project-based learning that aligns with CTE pathways.
    • And willingness to collaborate and work with other professionals in school and district.
    • Professional Learning Communities.
    • Ability to implement proficiency-based grading.
    • Ability to implement project-based learning in CCA classes.
    • Ability to build a positive working relationship with students, school staff, administration business partners, parents and the community.
    • Knowledge and experience using computers and software.
    • ESL Endorsement preferred.
