About the role

Operates Computed Tomography (CT) and/or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) equipment, prepares patients for examination, ensures proper information has been obtained for the physician to make a diagnosis, and assists in management of patient flow. Presents images mounted for physician's diagnosis.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for examination by explaining procedures in easy-to-understand terms to relieve pre-testing anxiety.
  • Sets up equipment to administer the proper procedure in a timely fashion and ensures consent forms for I.V. contrast materials have been obtained.
  • Performs CT/MRI procedures including abdominal, thoracic, neurological exams, extremities, sub-periosteal implant planning, radiation therapy treatment planning, and biopsies.
  • Positions patients on the exam table and within the gantry, inputs patient history data, and calculates the number of scans based on patient size.
  • Operates CT/MRI equipment to ensure required images are obtained as ordered by the Radiologist and locates the Radiologist to review scans for additional imaging needs.
  • Transmits cases to on-call Radiologist using Tele-Radiology systems and operates equipment for image transfer to film, archival, or PACS.
  • Administers intravenous (IV) and oral contrast agents as per Radiologist order, including dose calculation, venipuncture, and explanation of procedures to patients.
  • Utilizes power injectors for IV contrast administration and recognizes/assists in treating contrast agent reactions or IV extravasations.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology Program.
  • New York State Department of Health licensure as a Radiologic Technologist.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Registered Technologist (R.T.) required for positions filled after September 5, 2010.
  • ARRT registration in Computed Tomography (CT) or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) required within eighteen (18) months of entry into the position.
  • Certification in IV Contrast Administration required within six (6) months of entry into the position.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Previous experience as a Radiologic Technologist required; previous CT or MRI experience preferred.
