About the role

The Computed Tomography Technologist (CT Technologist) is a highly skilled professional who produces multiplane images for radiologist interpretation using specialized computerized x-ray equipment. The role involves operating CT scanners to create cross-sectional images of patient anatomy, manipulating scans to accommodate patient size and motion, and adhering to departmental policies for ALARA, pregnancy considerations, and scanning protocols. Stand-by duty may be required based on hospital needs. This is a journey-level position requiring at least two years of acute care hospital experience.

Responsibilities

• Competently perform all diagnostic imaging examinations as outlined in the department policy and procedure manual.
• Educate and prepare patients for exams, ensuring their safety, comfort, and physical well-being.
• Position patients and set appropriate technical factors to accurately demonstrate anatomy and pathology.
• Correlate patient clinical history with the Radiology exam to be performed.
• Use universal precautions when working with patients in isolation or sterile surgery.
• Assist with department clerical functions and participate in department meetings.
• Troubleshoot radiology equipment and communicate repair needs to service personnel.
• Apply critical thinking to implement alternative methods when problems arise.
• Prioritize and schedule work assignments for maximum productivity, including responding to emergencies.
• Develop and maintain effective work relationships with management, staff, patients, and physicians.
• Accurately use hospital and Radiology Information Systems to process patient information.
• Maintain clinical competencies and pursue continuing education for certification and licensure.
• Promote a positive and professional image of the hospital.
• Perform special projects at the request of the Lead Technologist or department manager.
• Ensure the safety, mental, and physical comfort of patients during radiological examinations.

Requirements

• Formal training in an accredited Radiological program with an Associate’s degree in Radiology or equivalent (high school diploma/GED).
• Minimum of two years full-time experience as a CT Technologist in an acute care hospital facility or completion of MarinHealth’s cross-training program.
• Technical ability to perform all diagnostic radiography examinations as outlined in the department’s policy and procedure manual.
• Understanding of human cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and medical terminology.
• High degree of accuracy in positioning and exposure techniques.
• Ability to interact diplomatically with the public, staff, and referring physicians.
• Effective communication with patients under stress.
• Ability to participate in departmental quality improvement activities.

Qualifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) – required at hire.
• Radiologic Technologist (CRT) – required at hire.
• Radiology Fluoroscopy (RHF) – required at hire.
• American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) – required at hire.
• Computed Tomography (CT) certification – required within 12 months of hire.
• Integrative Agitation Management (IAMTAC) – required within 30 days of hire.

Patient Care

This role requires the ability to provide care and/or service based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to patients of all ages, including infants, toddlers, children, adolescents, adults, and late adults (80+ years).

Pay

Compensation range: $65.15 - $90.75 per hour.
