About the role

Must be a graduate of a JRCERT-accredited program with a valid ARRT license and certification in CT by the ARRT (preferred). A valid MRT license by the Texas Medical Board (TMB) is required. The Radiologic Technologist functions within the legal scope of practice, adhering to federal, state, and local laws, as well as institutional policies. The role focuses on patient safety, accountability for quality care, and continued professional competence. The Technologist assists physicians and registered nurses with basic patient care under direct supervision.

Responsibilities

• Maintain confidentiality of patient-related issues.
• Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills, including explaining procedures and treatments while addressing language barriers.
• Provide care in a non-judgmental manner, recognizing discrepancies between patient and personal beliefs.
• Work in a high-pressure environment while maintaining excellent patient care and customer service.
• Provide supportive care to patients under the direction of the registered nurse or physician, including taking height, weight, vital signs, IV initiations, and blood draws.
• Document patient care accurately and communicate effectively with coworkers, patients, visitors, and physicians.
• Assist with front office duties such as registration, filing, shredding, scanning, and data entry as needed.
• Operate radiologic equipment to produce diagnostic radiographs (X-rays) as directed by physicians or radiologists.
• Position patients appropriately and adjust immobilization devices to obtain optimal views.
• Practice radiation protection techniques, including patient shielding and minimizing radiation exposure to patients, self, and staff.
• Prepare patients for examinations, including contrast administration, IV placements, and lab checks.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, patients, and families while maintaining professionalism.
• Adhere to departmental policies and complete required skill check-offs for competency.
• Facilitate departmental operations by completing forms related to exams (e.g., Contrast, Extravasation, Pregnancy).
• Apply knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and radiology/CT equipment to produce diagnostic-quality images and troubleshoot minor equipment issues.
• Report lab and radiology results immediately to the registered nurse or physician.
• Assist with patient assessments, examinations, treatments, crutch walking, dressing changes, and splint or cast application.
• Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment, including preparing rooms between patients and procedures.
• Perform laboratory duties, including patient testing, specimen collection, labeling, and preparation for reference labs.
• Follow laboratory safety policies, run controls, calibrate instruments, and maintain records as required.
• Order laboratory supplies and remain informed about new testing methods and technologies.
• Adhere to safety, infection control, OSHA, and fire safety regulations.
• Participate in performance improvement activities and continuous quality improvement (CQI).

Requirements

• High School Diploma.
• Associate’s degree in applied science or equivalent with diploma/certification from an accredited school of Radiology Technology.
• At least two (2) years of experience as a Radiologic Technologist in a hospital or emergency room setting.
• Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) with current certification.
• Current Texas license from the Texas Medical Board (TMB).
• Current CPR/BLS Certification.
• Ability to work all shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Basic typing and computer proficiency, preferably with Windows, Microsoft Office, and EMR systems.
• Pass a background check.
• Effective communication in English, both verbally and in writing; additional languages preferred.
