Purpose
Performs magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) procedures at a technical level requiring constant attention to detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative. Prioritizes patient care and maintains cooperative relationships with interdepartmental personnel while adhering to compliance, confidentiality, and the mission of the organization.
Responsibilities
- Works effectively with patients and their families while maintaining cooperative relationships with interdepartmental personnel.
- Notifies supervisor of equipment repair needs.
- Maintains compliance with Texas Medical Board and ARRT educational requirements.
- Adheres to all company policies, including OSHA, HIPAA, compliance, and Code of Conduct.
- Regular and dependable attendance.
- Follows core competencies set forth by the Company.
- Works holiday shift(s) as required by Company policy.
MRI Responsibilities
- Performs high-quality MRI procedures according to exam protocol in a timely manner.
- Performs a variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative.
- Prioritizes patient care and demonstrates knowledge of human structure, patient positioning, electromagnetic principles, and specialized techniques.
- Prepares patients and equipment for procedures by positioning patients, adjusting immobilization devices, and setting exposure factors.
- Obtains, verifies, and maintains relevant documentation such as patient history, consent forms, and shielding precautions.
- Adjusts equipment to produce high-quality images and performs quality control of images.
- Evaluates images to ensure they meet the ordering provider’s requirements.
- Maintains medical imaging records according to department policies.
- Adheres to safety requirements, protocols, and techniques to protect patients and employees.
- Completes quality scans efficiently and organizes workflow to meet urgent demands.
- Manages MRI supply inventory, stocks room supplies, and orders restocks as needed.
CT Responsibilities
- Performs a variety of routine diagnostic CT procedures in accordance with physicians’ orders.
- Prepares patients for CT exams, explains procedures, and ensures technical quality.
- Prioritizes patient care and obtains, verifies, and maintains relevant documentation.
- Adheres to safety requirements, infection-control, drug, and radiation policies.
- Cleans and maintains CT scan equipment.
- Manages CT scan supply inventory, stocks room supplies, and orders restocks as needed.
- Promotes individual professional growth and development through continuing education.
Other Duties
- Maintains work area.
- Attends required meetings and in-services.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Associate Degree in Radiologic Sciences or graduate of an AMA-approved school of Radiologic Technology.
- Completion of courses and training in Magnetic Resonance Technology or specific training in Computerized Tomography-GE VCT.
- Skilled in starting IVs and injection of contrast.
- Preferred: One or more years’ experience performing MRI and/or CT procedures.
Qualifications
- Registered with and in good standing with the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT).
- Licensed by the Texas Medical Board as a Medical Radiologic Technologist - General License.
- Registered with ARRT with advanced certification in CT, or registered with ARRT or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) with advanced certification in MRI.
- Current AHA-approved Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider CPR certification or within 60 days of hire.
