About the role
Works under indirect supervision of the Resource Technician performing daily activities of the Sterile Processing Department, which include all aspects of the decontamination, assembly of sets, sterilization processes, and specialty cart restocking (CPR carts, Disaster Carts, Case Carts and Specialty carts). Ensures functions are performed with conscious regard to the procedures while interacting professionally with other departments within the system.
The CSPDT must have knowledge of: surgical instrumentation in regards to identification, cleaning, inspecting, testing, packaging and sterilization, operation of mechanical equipment for instrument cleaning and sterilization, infection control practices and preventative measures, and regulatory agencies that govern sterile processing practices.
Responsibilities
- Perform decontamination, assembly of instrument sets, and sterilization processes
- Restock specialty carts (CPR carts, Disaster Carts, Case Carts, and Specialty carts)
- Identify, clean, inspect, test, package, and sterilize surgical instrumentation
- Operate mechanical equipment for instrument cleaning and sterilization
- Maintain infection control practices and adhere to regulatory agency standards
- Interact professionally with other departments within the healthcare system
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- One to two years of previous work-related experience (or completion and passing grade in an SPD training course/school)
- Provisional certification accepted for up to 30 days or until 400 hours of hands-on experience are fulfilled
- Certification from a NJDOH-recognized body such as CSPDT/HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association) required
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication)

About The Team

St. Joseph’s Health provides a salary range to comply with New Jersey law. The rate of pay for each position will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience, qualifications, and skills. The salary range does not include incentives, differential pay, or other forms of compensation.
