CSR-Part-time, Chatham Vital Records
About the role
Performs a variety of customer service and clerical support functions in a vital records department. Incumbent must be able to multi-task and work efficiently in a fast paced environment be proficient with computers and a variety of software programs, appropriately handle customer service issues and manage customer demands. This is a part-time hourly position and not eligible for benefits. All Coastal Health District, County Health Department employees are deemed essential employees in the event of an emergency. As such, you may be called on to participate in an event not limited to but including, staffing a shelter, a Specimen Point of Collection Site (SPOC) and/or Point of Dispensing site (POD). When you are called on to participate, you are expected and it will be a part of your job requirement to participate, whether the emergency occurs during or outside regular work hours.
Responsibilities
- Assist customers with inquiries regarding birth and death certificates while providing professional and courteous service.
- Process birth and death certificates, paternity acknowledgments, legitimations, and current year corrections in accordance with state regulations and procedures.
- Register death certificates with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Process funeral home requests and maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Submit tickets to SOVR when applicable to resolve record or system-related issues.
- Verify, review, and process certificate requests submitted through Vital Chek services.
- Authorize disposition permits as well as disinterment and reinterment permits in compliance with legal requirements.
- Process mail-in orders efficiently while ensuring accuracy and confidentiality of sensitive records.
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with vital records policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED AND 12 months of experience handling customer's questions, complaints and/or providing information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment and have strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and basic data entry.
- Knowledge of and previous experience with Gavers software preferred.
