California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is a preeminent center of intellectual and cultural activity in the Inland Empire region of Southern California. Opened in 1965 and set at the foothills of the beautiful San Bernardino mountains, the university serves approximately 19,000 students. CSUSB is a federally recognized minority-serving and Hispanic-serving institution that reflects the dynamic diversity of the region and has the most diverse student population of any university in the Inland Empire: 74 percent of its students are members of underrepresented groups, 80 percent are first-generation, and 56 percent are Pell eligible.

About the Role

The Program of Social Sciences seeks applicants for its part-time lecturer pool. We are seeking experienced, well-organized, and student-centered individuals to teach in the subject area of social sciences. This is a pool of part-time lecturers for the program to draw on as necessary, with all appointments being temporary. Staffing decisions are made on a rolling basis, typically beginning a few months prior to the start of an academic term.

Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students across a wide range of disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Teach courses in the social sciences curriculum.
• Interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, including first-generation college students.
• Foster a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in one of the fields of social sciences (e.g., economics, child and adolescent studies, history, sociology, social sciences, or psychology) at the time of employment.
• Demonstrated evidence of teaching promise.
• Ability to interact effectively with a diverse student population.

Qualifications

• Prior teaching experience at the college or university level is preferred.
• A Ph.D. is desirable but not required.
• Experience in working with diverse populations and fostering an inclusive environment is preferred.
• Evidence of scholarly activity, publication, and innovation is valued.
• Exemplary graduate-level teaching and leadership experience at the program level is preferred.

Special Conditions

• The person holding this position is considered a "mandated reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and must comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083.
• A background check (including a criminal records check) is required prior to employment. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may result in the withdrawal of the offer of employment.
• Completion of Sexual Violence Prevention Training is required within 6 months of assuming employment and on a two-year basis thereafter.
• This position may require the filing of a Statement of Economic Interest on an annual basis and completion of training within 6 months of assuming office and every 2 years thereafter.

Pay

• Lecturer A (Range 2): $5,507 – $6,677 per month
• Lecturer B (Range 3): $6,221 – $13,224 per month
• Lecturer C (Range 4): $6,825 – $14,523 per month
• Lecturer D (Range 5): $8,593 – $15,211 per month

Salary is commensurate with experience and based on the percentage of time appointed.
