California State University San Marcos invites applications for a Social Sciences Pool Position: Lecturer for the 2026/2027 academic year. This pool is used to fill short-term temporary positions on an as-needed basis, with appointments ranging from one day to a full semester. Applications will be accepted and reviewed throughout the academic year, closing May 31st.

About the Role

The Social Sciences Major is an interdisciplinary program offering students a broad understanding of contemporary social issues through multiple social science disciplines. Students select a Primary Field and two Secondary Fields from ten disciplines: anthropology, border studies, communication, geography, history, linguistics, political science, psychology, sociology, and women's, gender, and sexuality studies. The program is ideal for students pursuing careers in human services, social work, education, counseling, business, and government.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in a social science field at the higher education level.
  • Engage students using interdisciplinary frameworks and perspectives.
  • Demonstrate intercultural competence and a commitment to serving the campus community.

Requirements

  • A master's degree in a social science field (e.g., Anthropology, Border Studies, Communication, Geography, History, Linguistics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies).
  • Expertise in a social science field.
  • Experience teaching a social science field in higher education.
  • Employment is contingent upon working in the State of California, per the California State University’s Out-of-State Employment Policy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A doctorate or equivalent in a social science field.
  • Experience teaching upper-division courses in a related social science field.
  • Capacity to teach using interdisciplinary frameworks and perspectives.
  • Demonstrated intercultural competence and commitment to serving the campus community.

Pay

Salary is commensurate with degree level and experience, with an anticipated hiring range of $5,507 - $8,000 per full-time month. The salary schedule for the Lecturer – Academic Year Classification is as follows:

  • Lecturer A - AY: $5,507 - $6,677 per full-time month.
  • Lecturer B - AY: $6,221 - $13,224 per full-time month.

The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range.
