Cryptography Engineer

As a cryptography engineer, you’ll work with Booz Allen colleagues and the U.S. Space Force on cryptographic strategies that will sustain and evolve the next generation Resilient Missile Warning and Tracking (RWMT), Tactical Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (TISR), and Environmental Monitoring (EM). You will collaborate with cross-functional and cross-organizational Crypto, Cyber, and Command teams on new and novel approaches to cryptographic solutions and architectures that will inform senior leadership on critical security decisions relevant to protection of national security. This role provides direct, shoulder-to-shoulder work with U.S. Space Force policy makers and military Commanders, contributing to future on-orbit designs needed to drive success for critical global missions.

Responsibilities

• Develop and evaluate cryptographic strategies for legacy, current, and future devices.
• Work with COMSEC teams and manage processes to procure and handle Controlled Cryptographic Items (CCI).
• Design and assess cryptographic architectures for space or terrestrial systems.
• Brief senior-level government officials on cryptographic solutions and security decisions.
• Collaborate with cybersecurity and network administration teams to enhance crypto capabilities.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience collaborating with cybersecurity teams and network admins.
• 3+ years of experience with processes to procure and manage Controlled Cryptographic Items (CCI) or developing/evaluating cryptographic requirements for space or terrestrial cryptography.
• Knowledge of cryptographic modernization strategies for legacy, current, and future devices.
• Ability to brief senior-level government officials.
• TS/SCI clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree.
• DoD 8140 Intermediate Certification such as Security+, GSEC, or SSCP.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with space-based remote sensing systems.
• Experience managing secure voice devices, network encryptors, link encryptors, secure remote access devices, hard disk encryptors, and Tier 3 management devices.
• Experience with USAF or USSF cryptographic systems.
• Knowledge of cryptographic contract requirements and ability to recommend actionable contract language.
• Experience managing organizational mission assurance or risk management planning, training, and exercise programs.
• Master’s degree in Engineering, Information Systems, or Cybersecurity.
• DoD 8140 Advanced Certification such as CISSP, CISM, GCIA, or GDSA.

Pay

The projected compensation range for this position is $86,800.00 to $198,000.00 (annualized USD). Salary is determined by various factors, including location, education, knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, contract-specific affordability, and organizational requirements.

Schedule

This role may be remote, hybrid, or onsite. If remote, occasional in-person work at a Booz Allen or customer facility may be required. If hybrid, frequent work from a Booz Allen facility is expected, with potential visits to customer facilities. If onsite, work will primarily be performed at a Booz Allen office or customer facility.

Employees working virtually are generally expected to have their cameras on during meetings to support engagement and effective communication.
