About the role

To provide for the safety and welfare of students in designated school crossing areas while in transit to and/or from school; and to communicate observations and/or incidents that may impact the general well-being of students.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the safe crossing of school children in designated crossing areas
• Assist students, parents, and staff, etc. to provide safe access to and from school
• Communicate to students, parents, staff and visitors to ensure their understanding of school policies and enforcement procedures
• Report observation and/or incidents relating to students to appropriate school personnel
• Respond to emergency situations to address immediate safety concerns
• Wear orange safety vest and carry MPS issued, red hand-held sign to guide students, parents, staff, etc. through crossing area
• Place and remove school crossing and traffic control signs to notify motorists of school pedestrian crossing
• Regular on time attendance required
• Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools

Requirements

• High School education or equivalent required
• Knowledge of traffic safety rules and school policies and procedures

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Occasional exposure to extreme cold, heat, wet and/or humid conditions
• Occasional exposure to noises and vibrations
• Occasional exposure to fumes, mist, odors, gases, dust
• Occasional lifting, carrying, pulling, running, and/or throwing
• Must be able to push/pull up to 10lbs and lift/carry up to 10lbs
• May be required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and/or crawl
• Frequently required to use upper extremities for reaching, handling, fingering and/or feeling
• Must be able to speak in conversations or other talking; hear conversations and other sounds; and have close, distance, color and peripheral vision and depth perception
• Position requires continuous standing and/or walking

Pay

Base hourly rate: $16.56. New hires receive 1% of the base hourly rate for each year of verified like experience (within ten years) beyond the requirement, up to a ten-year maximum. An additional 1% of the base hourly rate is awarded for an AA or higher degree if not required for the position. Annual performance pay is available.

Schedule

Part-time (3.75 hours per week), 9.25 months (A11 class/calendar).
